Puppy Worming Schedule

Worm puppies and the dam at:

2 weeks of age-Pyrantel Pamoate
4 weeks of age-Pyrantel Pamoate
6 weeks of age-Pyrantel Pamoate
8 weeks of age -Pyrantel Pamoate (pups are weaned so dam does not require worming)

Use Pyrantel Pamoate, one day, on an empty stomach, dosed at 1ml per 10lbs.

Use Panacure for this treatment dosed at 1ml per 4.4lbs, for 3 consecutive days, on an empty stomach.

Pyrantel Pamoate is a 1 day treatment. It is the cheapest and least toxic wormer. The product can be purchased without a prescription. It is dosed at 1ml per 10lbs.
The most effective wormer is Panacure (fenbendazole). Treatment occurs on 3 consecutive days. It is sold as a non-prescription item labeled as Safeguard.
Other wormers can be used but are lethal to pups if overdosed.
A rotational schedule for wormers on adult dogs must be used. Worms in your area will build resistance to one medication. However, if you are rotating your adult wormers, the puppy wormers can stay constant.
If some resistance to Pyrantel is found, combine this product with Panacure and administer together (2 parts Panacure to 1 part Pyrantel). Administer slightly over 1ml per 4.4 lbs.
The most important wormer for dogs over 16 weeks of age is ivermectin. It is essential to administer this medicantion as a heart worm preventative.
